PACIFIC CANCER FOUNDATION RECEIVES $5000 DONATION FROM SUSAN G. KOMEN HAWAII AFFILIATE

(Wailuku, Hawaii, May 14, 2012) – The Pacific Cancer Foundation in Maui has been given a donation of $5000 by the Susan G. Komen Hawaii Affiliate. The donation will be used to help expand the Patient Navigation program that assists cancer patients in Maui County.

“We are incredibly grateful to Susan G. Komen Hawaii Affiliate, “ said Jeff Scharnhorst RN, M.Div, Executive Director of the Pacific Cancer Foundation. “They are truly a partner in our community in helping our Maui Ohana in their fight against cancer. A great mahalo to Lori Garcia, Mission Coordinator, and all the great people at Susan G. Komen for their support. This gift will help us expand our Patient Navigation program with further outreach to our community. Our Patient Navigator is able to assist those with cancer navigate their way through the complex world of cancer care and find the help and resources they need.”

“For example, when a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, it is overwhelming. What do I do? What resources are available in the community to help me? What questions should I ask? A patient navigator can help with answering these questions and assist in making referral to other community resources such as our High Risk Breast Cancer clinic program with Terri Imada, ARNP, from Kapiolani Women and Children’s Hospital in Oahu and our cancer support group, as well as many other community resources . Without the generous help of Susan G. Komen in Hawaii, these cancer support services would disappear.”

“Save the Date! The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is Sunday, October 21st, 2012 at Kapiolani Park. It's success is a major part of our ability to fund grants like this to serve our Hawaii community with great programs such as yours,” said Lori Garcia.
