FAQ

Team Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a team?
A: A team is a group of individuals who want to participate in the Race. This group may consist of friends, family, co-workers, church and civic groups, schools, children or any combination thereof. Both men and women can participate in both events, either the 5K run/walk and/or the 1-mile fun walk. Team members are not obligated to participate in Race events. Anyone who wants to join the fight against breast cancer can be on your team. There is no limit to the number of members you can have on your team.

Q: Do I have to run to be a part of a team?
A: No. You and your teammates can run or walk either event, and you don’t have to stay together as a group (unless you want to, of course!). You are welcome to carry signs and banners recognizing your team. You can even dress up in costumes!

Q: Some of my co-workers want to participate but they aren’t available on Race Day. Can they still be on my team?
A: Even if they won’t be able to participate on Race Day, you can still sign them up as a team member. He or she pays the regular entry fee, receives a T-shirt and can be listed as a team member but does not have to participate in Race Day activities.

Q: How do I register my team?
A: It’s simple. Your team members may register online, listing your team name and team captain’s name. For paper registration, individuals may mail in their completed registration forms indicating the name of the team and their team captain.  Race materials (t-shirts, bibs) will
be picked-up by the Team Captain. Your Team Captain will separate out the materials and distribute them to your members.

Q. Where should I send my paper team roster form, checks, and registration forms?
A. Please send them to:
Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure®
P.O. Box 31000
Honolulu, HI 96849-5365

Q: How do I find out about Race details?
A: Contact us at our Race Hotline (808) 754-6659, email at race@komenhawaii.org or visit our website www.komenhawaii.org.

Q: What is the policy for baby joggers, baby strollers, in-line skates, Razor scooter or pets?
A: At the start line, participants with baby strollers/joggers MUST line up behind runners and walkers.
For the safety of all participants, roller blades, scooters and pets are not allowed on the race course.

Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: No. Due to insurance limitations, please leave your pets at home.

Q: What is the deadline to submit the forms and money?
A: Mail-in Registration deadline is September 30, 2012. Online registration deadline for teams is  October 5, 2012. Online registration deadline for individuals is October 12, 2012. On-site registration will be available at packet pick-up from October 15-20, 2012.  On Race Day, there will be late registration and packet pick-up at Kapi'olani Park from 5:00 to 6:00 am.

Q: I just put my team packet in the mail and now someone else wants to sign up. Can they still be a part of my team?
A: Yes, if this is before the announced deadline. If the team captain has registered the team online, it would be best to have the individual register online.
After the announced deadline, additional participants must register separately as an individual entry. They are welcome to run/walk with your Team but must pick up their own race packet. There will be late registration and packet pick-up at Kapi’olani Park on the morning of the Race.

Q: Where do I go to pick up my team’s t-shirts and bibs?
A: Packet pick-up is at Ward Warehouse, Kewalo Conference Room, on the 2nd floor.
Scheduled times are 3:00-7:00 pm from October 15-October 19, and 9:00 am-12 noon on October 20, 2012.
The first two days, October 15 and 16, are reserved for team packet pick-up.

Q: Where do I park on Race day?

A: There will be very limited parking around Kapi’olani Park. There will also be free parking available at Kapi’olani Community College with buses shuttling between 4:00 AM and 10:30 AM. We are expecting over 7,500 participants, so plan to get there as early as possible. Parking will be limited, so it is wise to leave early and carpool.

Q: If I have a question about teams, whom can I contact for assistance?
A: For more information, you can contact Brigid Barcarse, brigidrfc@gmail.com, (808)779.8346 or Race Chair, Nina Rappeline, at Race@komenhawaii.org.

Q. My company would like to pay for the whole team, can we do this?

A. Yes, payment needs to be received first and then a special code will be given to participants so they can register online. The company may also decide to collect the applications and issue one check.  Please contact the Race Chair at Race@komenhawaii.org.

Q. Can I get Race posters or registration forms for my office/organization?
A. Yes. Please send an email to Race@komenhawaii.org.

Q. Where should my team meet?
A. There are plenty of landmarks near the Race start line. Please select one of these places for your team to gather and distribute it to all team members.

Q. What is the Personal Participant Center/Race Center/My Race Center?
A. The personal participant center (Race Center and My Race Center) is a page that is available (with login and password) to registered participants only. It features news from the Race and from there you can check your progress, send e-mails to friends and create a "personal page" (see below).

Q. What is the Personal Page?
A. We have made fundraising so EASY, you won’t be able to stop yourself! The Personal page is an online promotional tool for your use when asking your friends and family to join your team or sponsor you by making a donation. Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you, which you can design and customize from a basic template. You will be able to customize images, text and the style/color layout of the page. If you send e-mails from the Web site to friends, they will receive a link to your personal page and will NOT need to know your user name and password to get onto your personal page. The participant has the option to add photos and make it unique.

Q. Is there a Team Page?
A. Yes – there is a team page. A team captain can create both a personal page by clicking on Personal Page in the Race Center, and create a team page with a team picture and messages by clicking on Team Progress in the Race Center.

Q. I chose the paper registration option; can some of my team members still sign up online?
A. Definitely. As Team Captain, you will need to register your team online (preferred method) and then team members have the option to sign up online. If you already registered via paper form, a second person can designate themselves as the online team captain.

Q. What is Hiamoe for the Cure?
A. This participation category allows those that are not morning people or those who will be out of town on October 21, 2012, to continue to support the Hawaii Affiliate. Participants will receive one specially designed pillowcase.
